Our Optical Ground Station will provide the ground segment of the UK’s Quantum Communications Hub mission Satellite Platform for Optical-Quantum Communications (SPOQC). A primary objective of SPOQC is to perform and in-orbit demonstration of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) from a UK-built nanosatellite in Low Earth Orbit. Our OGS is therefore equipped with a quantum receiver payload. The dark fibre connectivity to the QuTech laboratory will investigate remote processing and thereby accelerate the translation of terrestrial QKD technology to satellite platforms. We are also collaborating with the Canadian QKD mission QEYSSat contributing to the mission design and eventually providing ground segment and associated signal processing.
