Our heritage in radio technologies for satellite communications goes back to over 10 years. We have extensive expertise in antenna as well as passive and active component design. Components and subsystems developed by our team have flow in space missions. Since 2017 we have been developing HERAS, an open-source modelling tool for reflector antenna design and are still actively working in this field both towards new antenna designs as well as for benchmarking the performance of different payload architectures and developing radio resource management techniques. More recently we have initiated theoretical and experimental research on design and modelling of active antenna arrays. Our expertise includes MMIC design and testing, antenna development, RF front-end integration as well as physical layer techniques. Over the years we have benefited from several ESA-funded activities and have acted as coordinators to the MSCA Doctoral Networks REVOLVE and TESLA and the MSCA Action DORADA. We are closely affiliated with the Microwave and Antenna Engineering Group at Heriot-Watt University, where more information about our research on radio technologies can be found.
